Welcome to the Brigg Fiddle Festival!
|
9th, 14th, 15th & 16th May 2009
A feast of Violin music!
This Years Fest looks to be even more exciting than previous years (if that’s possible)! We’ve even organised a Youth Day on the Saturday after the festival, May 23rd. This is where young people who are interested in the tradition, can come to workshops which will help them understand how to get started. We’re even having a Ceilidh!! Please check out our website for details of the Youth Day. The main Fest looks great too!
The 'Fiddle Fest' started as part of the Brigg Live Arts programme and was originally called
'The Fiddle Workout'. The committee of Brigg Live Arts asked
Carol Dawson, the organiser of Wootton fiddle club, if she would be interested
in putting on some sort of fiddle event during the Arts week. Delighted
by this opportunity and inspired by the Fulbeck Fiddle festival, she and
her trusty team (Russ, Lynn and Sue,) called on artists such as Loyko,
Gina Le Faux, Robin Garside, and the Old Rope String Band. They put together
two fantastic concerts, workshops and street entertainment. The Fiddle
Workout was such a success that the following year they decided to create
the Brigg Fiddle Festival and the rest is history. The Festival now boasts
a busking competition, music sessions, an education programme and five
concerts.
